Activation Rate Calculator

Measure how many signups reach the moment your product first delivers value.

Activation rate

What it measures

Activation rate is the share of new signups that reach a defined value moment: the first project created, the first report run, whatever your product's version of switched on is.

Why it matters

Activation predicts everything downstream. Users who never activate churn silently, and no retention work later recovers them.

A worked example

600 signups in a month with 210 reaching the milestone is a 35 percent activation rate. Most of the funnel leak in SaaS lives right here.

How to read and improve it

Shorten the path to first value. Remove steps, prefill sensible defaults and treat every onboarding screen as a place users leave.

Frequently asked questions

What milestone should count as activation?

The earliest action correlated with long term retention. Look at what retained users did in week one that churned users did not.

What is a good activation rate?

Depends on the product and its signup friction, but 30 to 40 percent is a common range for self serve SaaS.
